Have You Heard of Cucumber Gin and Qcumber Mixer?

The English Drinks Company succeeded in giving cucumbers the fame they deserve. In Cucumber Gin and Qcumber the taste of this underrated fruit (part of the melon family!) elevated to make a delicious G&T… or G&Q!

We all love cucumber as a garnish for our G&T. Imagine if that fresh and crisp taste was already in your gin or mixer, wouldn’t that be delicious? If you love the idea, you’ll want to know more about these brilliant drinks…

The Story

On one fine summer day about 7 years ago, founder Graham Carr and his wife went to Greece to visit their son who was working as a waiter at a private yacht club. It was while they were sipping on their G&Ts garnished with cucumber slices that they had a spark of inspiration. Returned home, they started experimenting with turning cucumbers into drinkable concoctions. It was when they managed to make a cordial and mixed it with soda water that they realised they were onto something.

They saw a gap in the market for a new cucumber flavoured soft drink, when only sweet elderflower was the most popular alternative. So Qcumber Mixer was launched: a versatile drink, great on its own but also perfect as a mixer for gin, vodka and Pimms.

After enjoying lots of Qcumber and gin, Graham and his wife were convinced that producing a cucumber gin would be a great idea… and the were right! In 2014 they started trying to distill with cucumber and in 2016 they launched Cucumber gin that 1 month after its introduction on the market won an IWSC silver award and 2 stars from Great Taste.

Cucumber Gin

Cucumber Gin is based on a classic London Dry recipe with a twist. It is made in some of the oldest working copper gin stills in the UK, some of them dating back to the early 1800s.

The botanicals come for all over the world, only the ones with the most flavoursome essential oils make the cut. The cucumbers are distilled separately and blended only at the end of the process with the rest of the gin.

The Gin is produced the old school way, all the botanicals are left to macerate overnight to extract all the essential oils before distilling. Only the heart of the batch is used to bottle, the smoothest and most balanced bit!

The flavour profile of the finished product is a contemporary twist of cucumber combined with a delicate juniper base. The cucumber’s sweetness subtly compliments the vibrant botanicals.

Qcumber Mixer

Qcumber contains only natural ingredients and is free from artificial sweeteners, colours, preservatives and flavourings. The ingredients list is short and sweet: carbonated spring water, natural cucumber extract, beet sugar, citric acid. The quality of the water used is fundamental to the taste of Qcumber. The source of the spring water used lies in the unspoilt rural area of the old county of Radnorshire in Mid Wales, chosen for its clean and pure taste.

Qcumber was named the most innovative new product of 2013 at one of the country’s largest industry events, receiving 2 prestigious awards for Best Drinks Product Innovation and Outstanding New Product Innovation!

The drink comes in 3 varieties: cucumber, cucumber and mint, and cucumber and spicy ginger! It is only 26 calories per 100ml and, if mixed with gin, it might help prevent a terrible hungover thanks to the properties of this hero fruit in it 😉

To the taste, Qcumber is slightly sweet and floral – predominant is the clean fresh cucumber through a pure rock filtrated natural sparkling spring water.

The Perfect Serve Cucumber Gin

Graham likes to enjoy this gin on the rocks or straight from the fridge garnished with a sprig of mint or coriander!

For a G&T, he suggests mixing it 50ml of Cucumber Gin with 125ml of premium Indian Tonic Water over ice and garnished with a sprig of mint and a slice of cucumber.

The Perfect Serve Qcumber Mixer

Qcumber has a clean fresh taste which makes it perfect as a stand alone adult drink. However it is also perfect as a mixer with Gin and Vodka or with Pimms!

Our suggested G&T is 50ml of gin, 125ml of Qcumber over ice garnished with a lemon peel or a spring of mint.
