8 Reasons Why You Should Be Making Your S/O a Gin Cocktail This Valentine’s Day.

8 simple reasons why making a gin cocktail this February 14th, could make this the best Valentine’s Day yet …

So it’s the season of love (apparently) and if you are spending it with that special someone (or just want to treat yourself), we’ve got you covered with some delicious recipes below. Why not give one or more a go!

Don’t forget to tag us on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter if you make any of these little love potions 😍

1. Nothing says ‘I love you’ like a little bit of effort …

A cocktail like this by @moodymixologist would go down an absolute treat! A bit of bubbly, a nice bit of garnishing and of course gin! It’s beautifully elegant, some effort and home cookin’ has been involved to impress your partner with the homemade rose petal syrup. But overall it’s a pretty straightforward cocktail that gives the impression you’ve gone that extra mile to make Valentine’s Day a bit more special!

Image and Recipe: @moodymixologist

You will need
25ml Malfy Rosa gin
10ml rose petal syrup
Top with brut rosé/sparkling rosé

How to …

  • Chill all ingredients for several hours
  • Add the gin and rose petal syrup to a champagne flute
  • Top with sparkling rosé
  • Finish with a garnish! (Edible flower/rose petal/strawberry)

The @moodymixologist recommends 2 methods for the rose petal syrup:
1) make it at home using dried organic rose petals
2) use simple syrup (available in supermarkets) and add a drop or two of rosewater

2. If you’re English you may be unable to express sentimentality

In the words of David Sedaris:
“In terms of emotional comfort it was our belief that no amount of physical contact could match the healing powers of a well made cocktail.”

3. February 14th is on a Friday this year!

Even more reason to celebrate! Instead of heading out for those expensive Valentine’s Day drinks in that overcrowded-with-couples cocktail bar, light some candles, whack on Titanic and settle down with a homemade cocktail.

Oh look, here comes an easy to make Valentine’s Day cocktail now … The Jawbox Valentine Martini

Image & Recipe: Jawbox Gin

25ml Jawbox Gin
25ml Jawbox Rhubarb & Ginger
10ml Lemon Juice
50ml Cranberry Juice
Egg White
2tsp Marmalade

  • Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker and dry shake first (don’t add ice yet!)
  • Now add ice and wet shake
  • Fine strain into a chilled coupe glass
  • Garnish with an orange twist or raspberries

4. Show how much you know your partner!

You can show how much you know your partner by using their gin and ingredients/flavours in a homemade cocktail! BUT, don’t fret if you don’t have an iota of a clue what your partner really likes, just go with the most popular choice because it will probably statistically be right.
According to The Drinks Business, UK gin sales rose by 28% in volume in the year ending 31 March 2018 so we’re definitely
confident gin is probs the way to go. TDB also offered that over 50% of the gin growth in the UK last year came from flavoured gin sales, and just under 3/4s of that growth came from pink gin.
This is practically science guys … a pink gin cocktail has a high probability of impressing your partner!

Try this simply exquisite Pinktini by Pinkster Gin!

50ml Pinkster Gin
10ml Elderflower cordial

How to …

  • Fill shaker with ice and several raspberries

  • Shake and pour into an ice-cold glass
  • Garnish with a raspberry and a sprig of mint

5. Also … apparently British women love the bevs?

According to a Telegraph article, as of 2018 British women are now some of the top tipplers in the world!
Skip the love bug teddy which will disintegrate within a few weeks, and make your lass (or bff) a classy and delicious chocolate gin shot!

Image & Recipe: delish

You will need
2 (16 oz) boxes strawberries
1 (3 oz) box strawberry Jell-O
1 cup water, boiled
1 cup [the recipe calls for vodka but we suggest Pin Gin Strawberry for that extra sweetness!]
1 1/4 c. semisweet chocolate chips
2 tsp. coconut oil

How to …

  • Slice off the tops and tips of strawberries, and level them so they can stand up on a flat surface
  • Scoop out the insides of the strawberries, creating a “shot glass.” Discard insides.
  • Line a small cooking sheet with parchment paper
  • Combine chocolate chips and coconut oil in a large bowl and microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until completely melted
  • Dip hollowed out strawberries in chocolate and place, cup side up, on baking sheet
  • Place in refrigerator to harden for 10 minutes

  • In a large bowl, whisk together Jell-O and boiling water until completely dissolved.
  • Add the vodka or gin and whisk to combine
  • Carefully pour Jell-O mixture into strawberries
  • Refrigerate for 3 to 4 hours (or until firm)
  • Serve & enjoy!

6. Valentine’s Day isn’t Christmas!
Do we really need a wrapped V-Day gift?

Simple question: would you prefer to stress over what you’re going to buy and how much your going to buy it for, OR create a romantic experience your partner won’t quickly forget? An article by Psychology Today suggests that “experiential gifts bring people closer, create better memories, and are more fun to talk about later.”
So we have two plans for you:
1) get your partner a bottle of gin to unwrap, and then hand craft an amazing cocktail (plenty of examples on this list!) right in front of their eyes in a romantic candle lit room …
2) get a cocktail making kit with all the ingredients included so you can make it together! Thank you to our friends at Taste Cocktails for hooking us up with this Gin Bramble cocktail kit!

7. Flowers/candy and booze is less of cliché gift when you combine them into an awesome looking cocktail (we’d argue) …

Break the trend of discount bubbly, flowers and a box of chocolates – instead why not combine them all into a single cocktail?! Think of the residual brownie points you can carry over when you forget your anniversary!!

Image & Recipe by HelloFresh
Published on Town & Country Mag

You will need
85ml gin
30ml lime juice
30ml elderflower liquor
170ml rosé champagne/sparkling rosé
[serves 2-4]

How to …

  • In a cocktail shaker combine: the gin, elderflower liquor, lime juice and ice
  • Shake
  • Strain cocktail mixture into a glass
  • Top with the rosé champagne/sparking rosé

Edible flowers
Rose petal ice cubes (place rose petals in the square places of an ice cube tray, add water and freeze)
Chocolate shavings or a chocolate shaving rim (wet the rim of the glass with lime juice and roll onto a plate of chocolate shavings)

8. Make a dessert cocktail

Are you thinking of making the perfect three course meal for your partner? Firstly, you rock! But rather than trying that over complicated chocolate construction you saw on Pinterest, why not conclude your home cooked feast with a dessert cocktail? We’d highly recommend Silent Pool’s Chocolate Alexander – it’s sweet, chocolatey, visually classic (like your date right?) and DELICIOUS.

50ml single cream
15ml gomme syrup
