Colonsay Gin: Spirit of the Hebrides!

Wild Thyme Spirits make premium artisan spirits on the remote Hebridean island of Colonsay. Hand-made, small batch Colonsay Gin takes inspiration from a mixture of Celtic folklore and the natural beauty of their wild island. Colonsay Gins are delicious and we just know you will love them!

The Story

Wild Thyme Spirits is owned and run by Eileen and Finlay Geekie who left over 30 years of Oxfordshire life behind them back in 2016 when they moved to the Isle of Colonsay to live and work!

Since launching their first product – Colonsay Gin – two years ago, the two entrepreneurs have sold over 20,000 bottles! The multi-international award-winning gin is made in small batches in a traditional copper still and is a London Dry style gin.

They recently signed an exclusive agreement with the Colonsay Estate, giving them sole rights to hand forage for wild botanicals growing on the Estate, including access to the highly acclaimed gardens and grounds of Colonsay House. This gives the distillers huge scope to experiment  and to create future products with distinctive Colonsay provenance.

The Inspiration

Inspiration for the spirit is rooted in the island’s wild landscape and its mythical Celtic folklore. Legend has it that every Scottish estate possesses its own ‘Brownie’, a spirit that assists with household chores; the WTS HQ’s spirits are the mischievous Doughal and Ferghus, as depicted in the brand logo, and Alva, illustrated in the Mucha inspired, Art Nouveau-style bottle design.

Alva is a red-haired maiden who was marooned on the unforgiving coastline and a taste of her indomitable Viking spirit is encapsulated in all her secret recipes, none more so than in the concomitant pepperiness and sweetness of Colonsay Gin.

The Gins

Colonsay Gin

The multi-international award-winning gin is made in small batches in a traditional copper still and is a London Dry style gin, classically juniper forward, but bottled at a slightly higher 47% ABV to accentuate the flavour profile. Juniper berries are combined with the other botanicals such as Angelica Root, Calamus Root, and Coriander.

Perfect Serve: Best served with premium tonic as a G&T with a garnish of either a twist of orange zest or, for the more adventurous, a slice of green chilli.

Bramble Gin Liqueur

Colonsay Bramble Liqueur has no artificial colour or flavourings added – they press the brambles and infuse the juice with Colonsay Gin! Delicious!

Perfect Serve: Serve over ice or with Elderflower tonic and a garnish of blackberries
