The Story
The HMS Spirits Company was formed in 2016. Like many people, Ben Maguire, founder of HMS Spirits, has always enjoyed a refreshing G&T. “There were loads of gins out there, but I wanted something that really appealed to people like me. Deep down I’m a bit of a stickler for tradition but as a young entrepreneur, I love trying out new things and seeing where that takes me,” Ben says.
So that’s what he did – he invested in a beautiful 35-litre copper still, during a completely non-related trip to Hungary, shipped it back and installed it in his garage. Over the next few years, he spent every spare moment testing different recipes, blends and botanicals in search of the perfect mix – a gin that respected the art of the London Dry, but also delivered a fresh, unexpected twist.
The name was inspired by Ben’s proximity to the sea and his naval family background. The “HMS fleet” seemed to capture the sentiment perfectly, encompassing integrity and respect for others, together with a real sense of adventure, and a willingness to go out there and take risks.

The Gins
Mary Rose Gin
Mary Rose Gin was HMS Spirit’s first and flagship spirit. Made with 100% organic British wheat grain spirit as the base. This is well balanced juniper led London Dry, with added pink grapefruit peel to liven the front of the palate, and rosemary for a soft subtle finish.
Dreadnought Gin
Dreadnought Gin is a navy strength gin at 57.5%, so-called because a warship’s gunpowder could still ignite, even if soaked in the spirit. It’s carefully distilled in small batches using a copper pot still and retains a slightly higher essential oil content which gives it a richness and ensures its smoothness on the palate.
Elizabeth Gin
A delicate balance of botanicals, a classic London Dry Gin and a natural elderflower distillate, producing a juniper led gin on the nose followed by light flowery and honey like tones, ensuring a crisp, palate-cleansing finish.
